Set up Voice

Choose these settings, then allow microphone access when asked.
- Voice mode
- Live
- Background Conversations
- On
Choose Live if it’s offered. Background Conversations keeps the chat going when you switch apps or lock your phone.

Connect your work apps

Connect the apps you use. Sign in to the correct work account for each one and approve access.
- Gmail
- Google Calendar
- Google Drive
- Slack
Use Microsoft for work? Connect Outlook, Calendar, or Teams where available.

Cut down on permission prompts
Open each connected app and account and find its permissions.
If that isn’t offered, choose the most permissive option available. Do the same for the general permission setting, if there is one.
Later, choose Always allow when it’s offered for an app you trust. Your work account may limit the choices.

Give it a little context

Turn on Memory and any available memory options.
This helps ChatGPT remember useful details about your work and preferences.

Make it one button away
iPhone SettingsAction Button
Swipe to Shortcut, then tap Choose a Shortcut. Select:
ChatGPTStart voice conversation
No Action Button? Open ChatGPT and tap the Voice icon instead.
That’s the setup.
Press and hold.
Then just talk.
Hold your Action Button to start a conversation. Try this:
Help me plan my day.
Can’t find a setting?
Settings and available features can vary by iPhone, app version, and account. Update ChatGPT, then look for the closest matching option.
If Live isn’t shown, use the Voice option available to you. Connected-app actions depend on the app and Voice features available to your account.
If the shortcut isn’t listed, open ChatGPT once and try again. You can also create a shortcut in the iPhone’s Shortcuts app using ChatGPT’s Start voice conversation action, if available, then select it for your Action Button.
